Proxim Wireless to Provide Wireless Backhaul for Live Video Streaming 8/27/08 - Proxim Wireless Corporation (NASDAQ: PRXM) announced that NVIDIA has selected Proxim's QuickBridge 60250 wireless backhaul to stream live video between locations at its NVISION 08 event, to be held in San Jose, CA from August 25-27.
NVISION 08 is NVIDIA's first ever visual computing mega-event, bringing together visual computing professionals, world-class gamers, innovative artists and designers, and cutting-edge researchers to share their ideas, experiences, and passions. The size of the event -- which will host thousands of attendees -- requires the event to take place at nine different locations throughout downtown San Jose, including the San Jose Convention Center, San Jose Tech Museum, Civic Auditorium, Center for Performing Arts and more. As a result, NVIDIA needed a way to stream live video of the keynote addresses and presentations taking place at the Center for Performing Arts back to the Convention Center. Given the location of the two buildings, NVIDIA determined they needed a high-performance wireless backhaul link, and turned to Proxim for the solution. "Streaming high-bandwidth visual applications are important to NVIDIA. By working with Proxim and their high-performance wireless backhaul, we're able to stream live between all of NVISION 08, a true treat for all of the attendees," stated Rob Csongor, vice president of corporate marketing at NVIDIA. Proxim's QuickBridge 60250 is a complete wireless backhaul link bundle -- including alignment bracket and scope -- making it one of the easiest-to-install wireless bridges on the market. With a total setup time of mere hours (instead of days), the QuickBridge 60250 provides 250 Mbps of connectivity over 500 meters. Due to its extreme low latency, narrow beam width and high data rate, the QuickBridge 60250 is an ideal solution for high density environments, making it perfect for NVIDIA's needs in downtown San Jose. "Proxim has extensive experience providing the wireless backhaul for all types of video solutions, from video surveillance to IPTV," said Geoff Smith, VP of Marketing and Business Development at Proxim. "So when NVIDIA came to us with their requirements for providing high-quality video over our wireless backhaul links, we knew we'd meet their expectations. This is one of the capabilities that sets Proxim apart -- the ability to provide the end-to-end QoS necessary for high-bandwidth, low latency applications of all kinds."
